 Dear Saints, April 2003

Well I believe its official - spring is here!! ! The calendar tells us that spring begins March 21st and that date has come and gone. The opening game for the "boys of summer", the St. Louis Cardinals, is this Monday. Everywhere you go there are signs that spring has come. The trees are budding, the flowers are coming up, and the joy of cutting the grass floods the souls of we "lawn-care" men.

As nature begins it’s transformation from the dormancy of winter to the life of spring, many of the spiritual people begin to see God in all the glory of spring. They see God in the flowers, the trees, the great sunsets and sunrises. And truly God can be seen in all these. I can see God in the flowers, but as the band Caedmon’s Call sings in one of their songs. . . I can find you in the flower but I need you in my car. That is where we need God the most isn’t it? We need him to be ever present in our daily lives. We need to be able to find God in our hum drum every day affairs. Going to work, on our way to school or just waiting for the bus. While we stand in line at the check out line at Wal-Mart, God needs to be seen by us and in us. The everyday is where God needs to be seen the most, because it is where we live, and it is where we are seen by people who are searching for our God. While people go to the great outdoors to feel closer to God, I like to go to the supermarket or the neighborhood mall because that is where I rub shoulders with his creation that he died for. It is with the mess of humanity where I feel him the most. After all, what star did he die for or what sunset has been made in his image? Name a flower that has his spirit living in it. Despite the fact that mankind can sink lower than any other of his creation, as this war has shown, it is this fallen humanity that he came to save. We can find him in the flower but may we also find him in our car, our home, our church, our nation. And may the people that are searching for God find him in us! We are the light of the world!

We have a lot going on in April, as you can see from the attached calendar, but as we come together to celebrate our Lord’s resurrection, please continue to pray for our nation as well as the events that are coming up, that God may be glorified in all!

Seeing God in you,

Pastor Rick
