Dear Saints, April 2004

Its April and the showers are just getting started!

The last week I was wondering if the sun would ever make its reappearance. I almost thought that David Copperfield or one of the other well known magicians had done a vanishing act on the sun without thinking through to the reappearance "taa daa" part. Or had someone relocated me to Seattle when I was in a deep sleep? The last week in March the sun seemed to have taken a vacation. Then one Saturday it happened. I awoke to the same overcast skies but around noon the sun broke through with all its warmth and beauty. The day had changed from overcast to sunny, from bluesy to punk rock. Just like my attitude. Until the sun had come out I was thinking of taking another nap or reading another chapter in my book. But with the sun’s appearance came energy. So I opted to put on my running shoes and take a run with my dog Hershey!

It amazes me how the sunshine can give us the energy to run and even change a bad attitude to good. How much more then when we celebrate the rising of the SON! We have great sorrow and despair whenever we remember the price he paid for our salvation. The cross was not a pleasant way to die. Just like the biblical account of the crucifixion, when he died on the cross a great storm blew over Jerusalem. The skies turned dark so much so that upon observation of the scene the Roman centurion standing by the cross said "Surely this was a righteous man." On the first Resurrection Sunday I picture the sun out in the sky and the Son out of the tomb! With the rising of the Son we have great joy and hope. When God’s Son shines on our lives he gives us the ability to change our hearts or attitudes and even our future. When we give our life to Jesus we have the eternal Son living and breathing in our hearts. He is ever giving us light to show us the way! So when our world turns upside down or we are going through a dark time in our lives just look to Him because he has the ability to give us life and that more abundantly!

Don’t forget that the Bible study has moved to Friday April 16th because we have a joint Good Friday service with Immanuel on Friday April 9th at 7:00 p.m. Please plan to join us for this very special service of reflection, repentence and restoration.

Enjoying the light of his presence,

Pastor Rick
