Dear Saints:                                                                                                        May 2004

Welcome to the month of May!!

Ah yes, the month that we send cards to our Mothers letting them know that we still wash behind our ears and thanking them for all their love and care. It is the month we congratulate all our sons, daughters and friends that walk down the aisle as their name is called and receive that diploma they’ve been working so hard toward. Some of us will also send birthday and wedding anniversary cards - it is indeed a busy month. With all the joy that we have this month why is it in our nature to look for the bad or worst in people? I was driving down highway 40 and traffic began to back up. When I finally got to the problem that was causing the back up I wasn’t surprised to see that an accident had taken place. But the accident had happened on the other side of the highway. Why do we slow down to look at an accident on the other side of the road? This happens all the time. We, as humans, seem to be vitally interested in some one else’s pain. Our human nature seems drawn to watching others suffer.

I am so glad God doesn’t have that in him. He doesn’t care to see all the mess of humanity. He does however care enough to become the answer for its suffering. He came down in the form of man and became the perfect spotless lamb upon whom all the sins of this world were laid. He was faithful to bring the cure for sin in his sacrificial death on the cross. If it were to happen today, the scene at the cross would be front page news; the lead story for all news media. Many would slow down to read of His death on the cross, while others would watch on TV hoping to see highlights of the crucifixion. But even if it happened today, there would be a few that would see something more than just a horrible death. They would see past the obvious and see something supernatural taking place, for in that place of death they would see their true life just beginning. They would see a suffering Messiah taking their place on that cross. They would feel a freedom with every striking blow to his back, for in those stripes we were healed from the pain of sickness and death. The cross will forever be a point of victory for the Christian. It is where we received his life in exchange for ours. The scene of the crucifixion was terrible but it will always bring tears of joy to me for the price he paid for our salvation. The cost was too high for me not to give my all to him. May we this month pause, not for someone else’s pain, but may we pause to remember the life we have because of the price Jesus paid for us at Calvary. To Him be glory, honor and power!

Sunday May 16th we are having a special 10-year celebration for Zion City Church. We are thanking God for allowing us to serve in the city for our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ! Also, don’t forget the Bible studies on Fridays May 14th & 28th at 7:00p.m.
