Dear Saints: November 2003

November is here and with it the beginning of the holiday season! There is much beauty during the month of November. This is the time when many search for that amazing sight of leaves changing on the trees. There is nothing more spectacular than leaves changing in the fall. Some turn a bright red to orange, while others turn a bright yellow. There are so many trees changing all at once that one can see a picture of beauty that amazes the senses to such a degree that only one-syllable words come out of our mouths, words like "WOW" or "OHHHHHH". Many people will drive for miles to find the most beauty they can behold. We are told of this road or that area of the state where the trees are the most beautiful in the whole nation, and many of us will drive the distance to see a spectacle of beauty like that. Sometimes we are disappointed, but other times the build up was true and we stand and "OHHHHH" at God’s masterpiece of His nature and beauty.

I have observed that while we travel for hours trying to find that beauty in nature, to see the leaves on trees turning their beautiful colors, we often miss the beauty that is right in our back yard. You see, while the beauty is real for us when we finally get to our destination and behold the area we were told of, we drive right by the same beautiful phenomenon happening on our street. We are so focused in our minds that this wonder of nature is happening miles away from us that we neglect to see the beauty of the trees changing right on our streets. Sadly, if we are not careful, we do the same thing with the beauty that God does in our lives. We see God moving in someone else’s life and we see their gifts flourishing as they use them for God’s glory. We stand by and think, "WOW" if I could be like them, or "OHHHHH" that is awesome. We will travel for hours because we hear that God is moving in another state. We are told there is a revival going on in Florida so we all go to hear from God and see the beauty of His work in the lives of those people. The fact is that He is doing something beautiful in our city, in our church, in our lives! We don’t have to travel somewhere to see God’s beauty in nature or in someone else’s life. He is doing a great work in our hearts as well as anybody else’s. Look out on your street, chances are there will be the beautiful colors all around you as the leaves are changing their colors right in your back yard! And if you will look further inside your heart you will also see the great beautiful work He is doing inside you. So unpack your bags and enjoy what God is doing right here, right now, in your heart!! ! Now unto Him be glory now and forever!

Please post the upcoming events in November on your refrigerator. There are a lot of them and I know you will be blessed by sharing your life with others during this season of thanksgiving and wonder.

Putting my luggage away,
