September 2003 Dear Saints; My favorite time of the year is here, Fall!! I love the changing of the weather and all the activities that come with this time of the year. Football, the kids going back to school and most of all the pressure of having that swim suite body is gone for another year as the styles return to the layer look. And everybody said "Amen"! We have had a good summer at Zion. We have gotten quite a few visitors over the summer and it was great being able to share our love with them as they visited us. I was running the other day and I came across a sign on a telephone post that caught my attention. It read "lost Guinea Pig; brown and white with a black circle around its right eye, answers to Piglet". I couldn’t help to wonder by the printing of the sign that probably an eleven year old or younger child wrote the sign hoping that someone would call them. I see a lot of lost signs when I run but usually they are for dogs and cats, this was the first sign I ever read for a lost Guinea Pig. I wouldn’t think that a lost Guinea Pig would be that big of a deal. I mean there not like a dog or a cat. They’re not that expensive to replace. I would equate a Guinea Pig to a Gold Fish. If you loose one you just replace it no big deal right? Well evidently there is a child in my neighborhood that would disagree. He loved his pet guinea pig enough to post signs around Lindenwood Park and on up to Chippewea asking for help in the safe return of his "Piglet". You see to him it was just not a Guinea Pig it was "Piglet". He had a name and he had become part of his family. Well doesn’t that kind of love sound familiar? When we were lost and undone living in sin. God didn’t leave us there and replace us with someone else. No, He loved us so much that He sent his only begotten son Jesus not only to find us but to show us the way back home to our Heavenly Father. If heaven has posted lost signs of sinners on the streets of gold, there would be at least one with my name on it. It might have been stated in this way: "lost son 5’10" light complextioned goes by the name of Rick" But thanks be unto God that the sign would have been taken down by His own blood, for as Jesus stated: "I came to seek and save that which was lost". I guess in His eyes we were worth finding. I don’t know if that child ever found his Guinea Pig, but I am thankful I was found by my Heavenly Father. How about you? The Bible studies resume Friday September 12th and 26th at 7:00 p.m. They will be held downstairs in the Garner room at the Church. If you would like to bring something to eat let Maria know and we will have some copies of the book "Purpose Driven life" available for you the cost is $10.00. The studies are sure to bless you and help you grow in His grace. Invite your family and friends to the Bible studies they too will enjoy them. Please remember me in your prayers during September 19th to the 30th. I will be in Malawi Africa sharing the good news. Pastor Rick
